Mandy van Pelt (she/they, 1992, Rotterdam the Netherlands), is a queer and neurodivergent multidisciplinary artist and social maker. They work with different media such as; painting, tattooing, printmaking, film and more.

As a neurodivergent (autistic ADHD’er) human being, Mandy came to learn at a young age that they couldn’t conform to the world around them and its demanding expectations. Needing to function while being constantly overstimulated by a fast paced, loud and demanding society, while on top of that having a head full of chaos, they turned to the act of making as a way to cope. Creating and working with their hands became a way for them to slow down in a world that keeps going. To escape when they feel completely overstimulated. To soothe their autistic need for sensory stimulation. To structure the chaos and uncontrollable change around them.

When working as a social maker, Mandy creates space for other people to slow down and investigate together with them how to take care of ourselves and each other in a world that doesn’t take care of us.

NEWSLETTER

In my newsletter “Busy Head - Slow Art”, I will share about my journey in slowing down as a neurodivergent queer artist and human being.

Click here to subscribe to my newsletter.

I will write about:
✿ Things that allowed me to slow down,
✿ Things that inspire me,
✿ And steps I take in taking care of myself (as an artist an human being).

I will also share about my experiences as a neurodivergent tattooer and what it’s like to get tattooed as a neurodivergent human being and that it’s completely okay if you need more time during the process of getting tattooed for example.

But I won’t be only writing stories to you. I will also give practical updates about: when I open my tattoo bookings, when I have new work for sale (like paintings) and when there are things on the agenda that I co-organise for the queer nature/care initiative Garden of Queerdom.
